A handful of sunflower seeds

As I sit listening to the rain on my corrugated iron roof, I have one eye on my Washington Post subscription feeding through my email. On the one hand the rain…the wind howling a little at the corner of our home and the late afternoon sun on green grass, are worlds away from the tragedy unfolding in the Middle East. I am waiting for what my intuitive senses tell me is coming; an acceleration of the violence and bloodshed and the catastrophe unfolding in Gaza right now.

As I write this…from the safety of my Australian home and the gentle sound of that rain on my roof…I cannot comprehend the suffering that is occurring right now.

So much of the world is like a tinder box. Do I need to say one spark and the fire will ignite and grow? I don’t think so. We all know what’s at stake. We feel it and sense it.

In February 2022 we watched helplessly while Russian soldiers and tanks crossed the border into sovereign Ukraine, intent on a blitzkrieg and toppling its young democratically elected leader. The Russian Emperor proxy Vladimir Putin had longed dreamed of reuniting the former Soviet Union borders under his authoritarian reign. We then witnessed the courage and sacrifice of the Ukrainians, hundreds of thousands of lives lost, Ukrainian and Russian, on the fields where once sunflowers and blades of wheat grew.

I still have the t-shirt sold in a Ukrainian fundraiser, of an old woman standing in front of the Russian tank in defiance, hand outstretched and giving the enemy soldier a handful of sunflower seeds. “Put them in your pockets, so at least sunflowers will grow when you all lie down here.”

A simple scene highlighting the pointlessness of war, death and destruction.

Unfolding now is yet another tragedy which the world of humanity could not stop. A terrorist organisation trained by the Russian Wagner mercenaries (most likely somewhere in Africa) and financed by Iran, with weapons from Russia, stormed into Israel and viciously killed hundreds of Israeli’s, taking some of them hostage in Gaza, holding both the innocent Palestinian families and the Israeli’s hostage in what some describe as an ‘open air prison’…the Gaza Strip.

Bombs are dropped indiscriminately now on both sides, no hope for a peaceful settlement, and nearby Arab countries like Egypt, Iran and Lebanon one step away from joining the fray. US warships are anchored at the ready, as a deterrent against escalation.

In the US, the opposition party is actively discrediting the current President of their country, spouting Russian talking points on Ukraine, and its leader, the former US president Donald Trump talking up the terrorists. One chamber of its Congress is paralysed, held hostage by the extreme wing of the GOP, unable to function. The US at a time when the world is on the edge of the precipice, is legislatively neutered and leaderless.

What hope have we got when the world has gone so terribly wrong?

In times like this, when the darkness obscures almost all of the light, I focus on hope. I focus on what I know…that the world is changing and that old myths, tokenisms and narratives that suit the very people that led us into the darkness, are being exposed.

I focus on the light of truth and I know that truth-telling leads to justice, and justice leads us to balance. Perhaps this balance is the gift from God, to peel away the layers of detritus to reveal the truth because when we have truth, we have clarity, decision-making and a way forward.

I made this video a few months ago, using the Angel Tarot. It is relevant to this blog and for this time. I hope it provides some comfort.

Channeling occultist Aleister Crowley

As a clairvoyant and medium, I have channeled many people on my Youtube channel, Revealing Light Tarot, Astrology and Spirituality. They have been people who have achieved great things in their lifetimes and have struggled, as we do…the channelings more powerful for their humanity, their contribution and their flaws.

It was with some apprehension that I channeled a request, not something I usually do, for occultist Aleister Crowley. Like everyone else, I had bought into the hype surrounding his name…and to be fair, Crowley himself encouraged this. I’m not sure what made me persevere and do the channeling…call it curiosity and something more…a vague suspicion there was more to Crowley than met the eye, beyond the hysteria and fear he seemed to engender.

I did the barest research before the channeling. Date of birth and death, a brief description of his life…his parents and the tarot deck which he co-created with Lady Freida Harris – the Thoth Tarot.

I went into the reading without too much awareness; and I emerged after my channeling with a new understanding of his intellect and contribution to spiritualism. I’ll let the channeling speak for itself.

Happy Halloween and Sahmein readers. There are mysteries and magic that remain hidden in the darkness of ignorance, just waiting for some light.

Revealing Light Oracle…cards for the spirit

Well…after 6 months in development, I’ve finally sent the first of my ‘indie’ oracle decks on their way – to the US, to the UK, around Australia, and to Europe. The Revealing Light Oracle was created with the awareness that everything we go through, the good and the bad, and those mountains we think we are never able to climb, add up to a strong spirituality, and a strong connection with Spirit. Each card was developed with an understanding of the soul’s growth. We may come into this world with a lot to learn…, with a contract for what we go through, and a purpose and meaning to fulfill…but, hopefully, we grow, we understand, we become aware…and it all gets easier and more joyful as a result.

As someone who has battled and survived cancer, experienced all manner of bereavement, and grief and loss, I can say that nurturing spirituality is, probably, the most joyful and rewarding thing I have ever done in my life (aside from bringing new life into this world). Once understood, spirituality and connection to the Divine, offers a chance to transmute mere knowledge into awareness and a state of being, and the opportunity to understand the secret to positive manifestation.

Of course, life is rarely a ‘walk in the park’, even for experienced souls. There are still lessons to learn, and mindfulness is an ongoing practice. However, the relationship with Spirit and the connection to our higher selves is worth every effort, and self-reflection and adjustment.

But back to The Revealing Light Oracle. It was a labor of love and a chance for me to return to one of my past pursuits, writing, creative development, and publishing. The 40-card oracle uses imagery, chakra colors/energies, elemental symbols, astrology, and numerology as well as keywords and phrases to stimulate spiritual development and awareness. I use it most days as my ‘go-to’ oracle…perhaps because it mirrors the spiritual side of our human experience. My favorite cards are Hope, Moving On, Review and Gateway…well perhaps all of them, but I am biased. I have a small number available which you can purchase from me by emailing revealinglighttarot@gmail.com. Please put Revealing Light Oracle in the subject line.

The video below shows a reading I began with the Revealing Light Oracle. I only got a couple of minutes in when the laptop cut out because of an incoming call on my phone (the two are connected and usually I have my phone on airplane mode when recording). As I got to 1:50 minutes I felt the familiar presence of the light orbs. I realized then that although the reading had cut out, I should keep the video because of the strength and visibility of the light orb. I then used the counsel in the card to handle a pressing issue. It turned out to be the right approach. That card was ‘Review’ with the words: “there is always more than one option”. This demonstrates the value of an oracle or tarot deck. You are tapping into your own intuition, your higher self, and Spirit. There is nothing more affirming than that…

Tuning into Nelson Mandela’s legacy

A few nights ago I tuned into the energetic vibration of former South African President, and freedom fighter, the late, beloved Nelson Mandela – known as Madiba which is ‘father’ in the language of the Xhosa clan (Mandela’s clan).

Like other freedom fighters of an impossible era, when apartheid and suppression were endemic across the ‘white’ world, in countries where colonisation had displaced Indigenous peoples, Madiba was one of the many lights that led the way…his brilliance transformational when you consider he was thrown into a jail for 27 years. Yet despite the bars, the loss of liberty, the cruelness, he had this to say when released: “As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn’t leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I’d still be in prison.”

Of all the wonderful legacies Madiba left us when he passed at 95 years; his inspirational words which were a reflection of his inner journey to real freedom, one stands out at this time for me. It is: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”

I reflected on why that particular phrase resonated with me, and it is this…

Life as we know it serves us restriction; it dishes up all manner of painful situations, health issues, family dysfunction and a host of loss from the death of loved ones, career and jobs…and even identity. The inevitability of our own transition from this life to the next is felt as, perhaps, the biggest, most unchangeable loss…if you don’t understand one truth. There are always…always possibilities no matter what the situation.

I have been inspired by Madiba from the time I first heard his incredible story of courage. He was, and is, inspirational. Always the human being…a man who admitted his mistakes…those mistakes did not diminish or tarnish his legacy. When I tuned into his energetic vibration; to his story, his time, his legacy, I found inspiration again and reinforcement that whatever comes our way, and while we might flounder until we come to terms with our inevitability, “it always seems impossible until its done”.

If you would like to listen to my reading – ‘Tuning into Nelson Mandela’s energetic vibration’, it’s below.

What’s beyond this physical life?

Most of us can go through life not giving much thought to our mortality. We’re obsessed with the obvious; our career, our relationships, our finances and sometimes the petty squabbles that we allow to bleed through and disrupt our equilibrium. What comes next after this life is something we leave til the last minute. And who can blame us? We like to think we’re immortal, that we will go on forever and so when illness or the unexpected comes along, we are floored.

Yet death is inevitable.

There is a Latin funerary inscription I came across recently while visiting a touring exhibition on the Roman Empire, at the National Museum of Australia. I was taken so much with it that I photographed it on my iphone:

What stood out for me was “…For death is the nature, not the punishment of humankind.” When I think about that, it makes sense; it’s in our nature to die a physical death but does our spirit continue? Everything that I’ve experienced through clairvoyance and mediumship tell me that there is life beyond an earthly existence. Whether we believe that or not, depends on faith. I don’t mean faith in a religious sense but faith in the unseen, what is not apparent but is nevertheless real.

There are many scientific studies on life after death…if you need the proof. Scientists have recently been revising 20 year old theories on consciousness, concluding that: “The quantum information within the micro-tubules is not destroyed, it can’t be destroyed, and it just distributes and dissipates to the universe at large….it’s possible that this quantum information [stores in can exist outside the body, perhaps indefinitely, as a soul.” You can read more about this study here.

From a metaphysical point of view, there are ways we can tune into what is known as the ‘Afterlife’. We can do this through the Clairs…clairvoyance and clairaudience for example, and we can do this through mediumship…all abilities that human beings can access, sometimes automatically and, at other times, with training. It would surprise you just how common seeing a loved one after they pass can be…certainly it’s been common for me and for nearly all the people I know.

But at the end of the day, it’s a matter of belief and, as we know, beliefs can be as hard as concrete or as fickle as inattention. However, if you put your attention on the spiritual, on noticing the truly magical that is around you, you begin to actually see the signs and the flow of all things. And if your brain tends towards the sciences examine one thing…the nature of energy. Energy is real. It can be felt, and there’s no reason to think our energy does not continue after our physical bodies die.

How do I know what I see is real?

One of the wonderful things about ‘reading’ for someone is the validation that often occurs after the reading.

Often when I begin a reading and tune into the client’s energy, I receive a series of pictures/images which allow me to bring forward my clairvoyance. These pictures guide me toward the central reason/s the client has requested the reading – often it is the core of the problem that, once acknowledged, can help initiate progress or provide insight and reflection. At other times I will ‘hear’ words and phrases (clairaudience). At times, I see these words and phrases written on a notepad.

Of late, I am reflecting emotions which provide an indication of the issue that might be causing a problem, for example, the need to express or release something that is troubling or has been bottled up.

For many years, I received these pictures and felt the feelings, and didn’t know what to do with them. Mostly I kept it to myself or tried to explain it to help someone, or correct something. It wasn’t until I was diagnosed with cancer and underwent treatment that I strengthened my connection with spirit and understood, for the first time in my life, that I needed to use the gift I’d been given.

When my clients return with validation, I smile quietly to myself. I don’t linger on the good news as ego shouldn’t come into a connection with spirit. Rather, I try and remain humble and hope that the information I was privileged to impart; the guidance I hopefully provided, will be helpful.

I believe we all have these gifts, and that we know more than we realise. One of the ways to strengthen our intuition is to use it. So next time you’ve got that gut feeling, acknowledge it, use it and learn  to trust it.
