We think we run the world and we are finding out we don’t. We are also finding out that it doesn’t really matter who’s in office, those above are instructing him or her to carry out a specific agenda for them aimed at profits (for oligarch class). Trump is their agent of chaos and he’s got his instructions. Until people stop focusing on the under layers, the middle layers of presidents and prime ministers and party politics & personalities & go right to the top to the hidden agendas and manipulation of the private sector elites, then we are doomed to be players in their games.

That’s what I’ve learned in the last year.

It’s been a painful lesson as I came into this entirely focused on humanity, fairness and equity…doing right by those around you and by your own values. I looked for these similar values in the one in office, the party, and thought that through politics we could get it right.

However through the Biden and Trump presidencies, Clinton and Bush too and closer to home Morrison and Albanese Prime Ministerships, I found glaring similarities in all. The forever wars, the policies and decisions that put profits in the military industrial complex and that killed, maimed and tortured hundreds of thousands…millions if the truth be known. The policies that deliver for the oligarchs yet leave the people broke and sick without care…and the ever yawning chasm where the rich get richer and the poor…they stay poor and trapped only hoping the next one in office will be better. Let’s face it, what has changed in the last twenty years, through the cycles of left and right, moderate and far right leaders? The middle class has been hollowed out, the poor are more destitute and our children cannot even afford a roof over their heads.

And so when people ask why trump ‘is happening?’ Or wonder why a depraved thing like Epstein and his blackmailed co-offenders were not brought to justice through all the presidencies, I say it is because we have to learn to change the world not as we want it to be but in full awareness of what it is.
That’s our task. To shake it up, to meet them with cold hard summations and to say, ‘we are not fools and we will not stand for this hypocrisy and manipulation any more.’

I learned a while ago that one of the most powerful spiritual actions is to love and care for yourself as you expect others to love and care for you, and to demand nothing less. We owe it to ourselves to face reality and to set about the business of caring for ourselves in a world that is being run by the worst of us. And to change it, for the better.
